Happy to say we have completed our final month of
Workamping, and we hear the road calling our name. We really enjoyed the experience of
Workamping at Moonshine Creek and its great owners Jim and Dana which was made
so much better by the great friends we made with our fellow Workampers Scott,
Tracy, Dick, Terri, Gail and Dennis. We had so many laughs and enjoyed each
other’s company so much during these last three months, with our pot luck game
nights, thrift shopping, dining and golfing.
Speaking of golfing, we had so many laughs with our foursome of Dick, Scott, Tracy, and me at the Smoky Mountain Country Club where the name of the game is how many balls we can lose today. Ten feet off the fairway and the ball was lost to a two hundred foot drop. We tried some more fly fishing in the area with no luck this month, so we gave in and went to a local trout farms so we could see what these mountain trout tasted like. Can you say fish in a barrel? LOL, it took Chippy, Scott, Tracy and I about 15 minutes to land six two pound rainbow trout from the pond which was swarming with trout. So much for our fishing prowess, but they were so tasty it was worth swallowing our pride. We had some other water fun tubing down the “Tuck” river in June with lots of adventure on the first of two trips. Chippy and I left our river tubes in the condo so we shopped the area for replacements and all we could find were farm tractor tubes. When we hit the river we knew immediately we were in trouble. The tubes were a bit too small for Chippy and way too small for me. Our friend Tracy switched her tube with me and off we went. Things were going along nicely as we rode the first couple rapids with minor difficulties, but then disaster struck when I hit a sharp rock which ripped my tube to shreds. Tracy and Scott had to share his tube the rest of the way and I had to ride the tractor tube like a surfboard the rest of the trip. We all came away with some bruises on that trip. The next trip we paid closer attention to the local dam releases and the river was much higher providing a much better ride with our new tubes purchased on Amazon. With the higher water the rapids were much better and the ride much smoother and faster and fewer bruises….LOL.

A few days before we left Moonshine we were lucky enough to have two talented bluegrass/country musicians have a jam session right on our patio and boy did they draw a crowd.
I have to say the Western North Carolina area
is so filled with scenic beauty we could spend a few more months to see it
all. We did get to visit the areas of
Cashiers, Fontana Dam and Cherehola Skyway, hope you enjoy the pictures. This area should be on anyone’s bucket list,
we are just on the other side of the mountains from Gatlinburg TN.
